MacDonald's first commissioned public artwork is located at Quidi Vidi Lake, home to the St. John's Regatta - North America's longest-running sporting event, dating back to the 18th century. Near the starting line of the race, a life-sized bronze figure of a rower pays tribute to the cultural history of this place.
Regatta Day is usually held on the first Wednesday in August, weather permitting. It is the only civic holiday that is dependant on the weather.
Artist bio
Morgan MacDonald holds degrees in Fine Art (Grenfell) and Business (Memorial), and runs his Newfoundland Bronze Foundry from Logy Bay, NL. He uses lost wax casting to create works that are highly realistic and technical in nature with an emphasis on our deepest expressive human qualities. He is the recipient of the Memorial University 2016 Horizon Awards for outstanding achievement under the age of 35.
