Since 2005, the City of St. John’s has commissioned large-scale murals in various neighbourhoods to celebrate the city's rich character and heritage.
The Outer Battery Mural was a collaborative creation by artists Derek Holmes and April Norman celebrating the spirit and history of the Battery with a focus on the fishing heritage. Holmes' and Norman’s murals can also be found on Duckworth Street West, Duckworth Street at Prescott Street, Cabot Street at Flower Hill, and Blackhead Road.
Artist bio
April Norman is a graduate of the BFA program at Grenfell College. Her work, including paintings, prints, murals, billboards and drawings, can be seen all over St. John's. She and Derek Holmes collaborated on ten murals before his passing in 2019.
